Ranch Oyster Crackers

It's that time of year, the time when we gather with friends and family and enjoy delicious meals together after hours of slaving away in the kitchen. And in between delicious meals we nosh endlessly on sweets and snacks. That's where I come in.

A few of my favorites include Chex mix (both the traditional kind and the almondy sweet kind!), caramel corn, and now these. Crunchy, salty.. yum!
Ranch Oyster Crackers
1 envelope of Ranch Dip Mix
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried dill weed (optional)
2 packages of Oyster Cracker
Mix first four ingredients together, toss with crackers and bake at 250 degrees for 20 minutes.

Share with the whole crew!

Winter Wonderland: Part II

Just as I had hoped, our little boy LOVES the snow!
We had a great time playing in the fresh snow this past Saturday. Cal licked snowflakes off his face, covered his mittens in the cold stuff and squealed with joy as he was pulled around in the sled (see video at the end of the post). Tipping over and landing face first in the snow ain't no big deal for this baby!
Cal and cousin Sawyer loved going up and down the "hill" in the backyard.
So happy to enjoy the first snowfall of the year with the whole family!

We finally took him in right around the time when his formerly pink face took on a purpley hue and what did he do? He cried at the patio door wanting to go back outside. Hah! I love my winter boy!!

One Day I Will

One year later- the nursery is finally complete! Last week, we hung these adorable framed posters above Cal's changing table/dresser. Calvin's Aunt Sarah created these just for him. I love that he has something inspirational and homemade to look at when he wakes up in the morning!
Thanks so much Aunt Sarah!

Winter Wonderland

Calvin woke up to his very first snow this morning.
The snow fell quietly throughout the evening and into the night last night and is covering the ground this morning. It goes without saying that I'm in heaven. I'm hoping Calvin learns to love a cold, snowy day as much as his mama. We are enjoying a quiet day in Jamestown- sipping on coffee, listening to Christmas music, and visiting with family. A red sled is sitting in the corner of the living room waiting for Cal and Sawyer this afternoon.. I think I am more excited than the boys!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Month Ten

I've been putting off this post for weeks and figured I better bite the bullet before the month passes me by and the kid is eleven months old! (Don't you love that each month's post starts with me whining that I'm writing the post too late?! Thank goodness there are only two more of these little Cal updates left. Maybe next year I'll do a quarterly update.. which will undoubtedly be posted in an untimely manner.)

Anyway, month ten was a great month! Cal enjoyed his first flight, we had a blast visiting Taylor and Rebecca in Syracuse, we started getting serious about naps (which forced me to get a little more serious about wine), and ended the month by celebrating Cal's first Halloween.

Check him out these days..
TEN MONTHS
For your comparison..
NINE MONTHS
Here's what we have learned about Cal this month..
Stats:
According to a scale I stepped on with Cal this morning, he weighs right around 20 pounds. His skinny butt and long legs are starting to outgrow his 12 month clothes. Most days he crawls around in what looks like capri pants. Time for some bigger jeans! We are still going strong with cloth diapers and are thankful that they are growing right along with him.

Eating:
Current favorites include cheese, yogurt and pasta. No joke, at dinner Cal will eat more pasta than I will! Piglet. He has been less and less interested in veggies lately, especially green veggies. I think I'm going to have to get creative and start hiding them in other foods. He is really getting the hang of sippy cups and thinks that juice in a cup is the best thing on earth. He takes a sip and looks at you like he is getting away with murder. Funny guy.

Sleeping:
As you may have read in this post, we have been working hard on getting Cal to take two quality naps every day. It's getting better and better. We have also been trying to put him down for the night a little earlier in hopes that getting a little more sleep will equal a happier day for all. He has an nice bedtime routine that includes a bath, a few books, a bottle/boob, and bed. Since Jakob spends four nights a week alone with Calvin in the evenings while I'm at work, he has become the bedtime pro (although he lacks a little in the boob area!).

Milestones:
The tooth tally is up to four. Both top teeth came in this past month. They popped through with a large gap that is equal parts hilarious and adorable.

The babbling is really picking up these days. Lots and lots of "Mamamas" and "Dadadadas" and "Brrrrrs" although I must say, he really does look at me and say "Mama" at least once a day. Coincidence? I think not!

As far as motor skills, Cal will stand independently for about 5 seconds and is this close to walking. He loves waking around behind his little car- as you can see here. He will happily walk around with someone's hands but just stands there when you let go. I'm guessing we will have an official walker in the next month or so. I can't believe we are already at this point!! < insert sob >

I'll leave you with the first of many Mexico photos coming your way. This photo shows off another one of Cal's recent favorite things- being naked! It's goes hand in hand with the fact that he absolutely hates having his diaper changed or getting dressed. Sometimes you just have to give in..

Roger vs. Cal

Okay, I know this is a bit offensive but this is my blog and I can do with it what I want. So there.

But let's be honest, my baby's goofy grin looks a lot like Roger Ebert these days..

And only I can say that.
Because I am Mom.
And I love my mini Roger.

Look at My Boy!

Another proud mama moment.

He will be letting go of that toy in no time!

Halloween

We celebrated Cal's first Halloween by wandering around Lincoln Square showing off our little monster and collecting candy from the local shops (which we would promptly go home and eat for him). We also spent a little time with Cal's Elmo girlfriend and enjoyed some time walking around our neighborhood on a beautiful fall day. Marshall even dressed up in honor of the occasion and went as a bull. He didn't want to wear the bull horns but happily walked around with the bull rider on his back. Everyone we saw was obsessed with Marshall's costume! He received way more attention than the little dude that afternoon. And to be honest, it only seems fair as Cal gets more of the attention on the other 364 days of the year. Here are a few photos from our day..
